The Dark Side of Wildlife Tourism (and How to Avoid It)

Wildlife is a highlight of many holidays, and I'm passionate about animal welfare. I regularly update my policies to ensure best practices are followed.

By choosing responsible wildlife tourism, you can enjoy incredible experiences while protecting animals and their habitats.

Here’s where I stand:

Captive Animal Facilities

I don’t support zoos, animal parks or facilities that:

  • Capture animals from the wild

  • Offer animal performances, rides (except domesticated animals), or photo opportunities

I promote genuine sanctuaries, rescue centres, and rehab facilities, as well as breeding programs for endangered species.

Elephant Rides & Performances

I don’t support elephant rides or camps where elephants perform. The “breaking in” process used to tame elephants is cruel, and wild captures contribute to their endangered status.

Orcas & Dolphins in Captivity

I stand against dolphinariums and orca shows. Capturing these intelligent creatures for entertainment is inhumane and outdated.

Lion Walks & Cub Interactions

Playing with lion or tiger cubs often supports the canned hunting industry. These animals are rarely released into the wild and often end up in trophy hunting facilities.

Sea Turtle Hatcheries

While hatcheries can aid conservation, I don’t promote those that use tanks to hold hatchlings. This practice weakens turtles and spreads disease.

These are my lines in the sand when it comes to animal welfare and tourism. What are yours? Let me know what matters most to you, and I’ll design a holiday that aligns not just with your wants and needs but also with your values. Together, we can create a travel experience that feels right for you and makes a positive impact.
